It only seems like yesterday that she was born, but it's already been a year since Ava McLean came into the world.

Proud parents AJ McLean, 35, and his wife Rochelle Deanna Karidis took Ava for a birthday night out on the town as they visited the Grove shopping center in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Backstreet Boys member and his wife looked to be in good spirits, smiling as they walked.

AJ, which stands for Alexander James, pushed the empty stroller while Rochelle held Ava.

Wearing a cap and buttoned vest, AJ's full beard stood out as did his tattoos on both arms.

Meanwhile, Rochelle wore a shiny black coat, black pants and flats.

But it was the birthday girl who stood out the most in an adorable leopard ensemble with matching shoes and a black ribbon in her hair.

While they seem to look like the picture perfect family, it hasn't all been laughter for the singer who has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction.

Back in December, he revealed to In Touch magazine that his sobriety has been 'sporadic.'

The pop star, who's been in and out of rehab since 2001, confessed: 'A few weeks ago I had a really bad day.

'I went out in Hollywood and had a couple of beers and maybe one or two shots.'

He said: 'I'm trying to be a good husband and a good father and deal with life on life’s terms. There is a lot going on. It’s been overwhelming.'

McLean continued, 'I can’t stress how much my daughter is an inspiration to stay sober. When I come home and she opens those big blue eyes at me, it’s the most amazing feeling I could ever feel.

'I’m not looking for sympathy. It’s a constant struggle, and it’s not as easy as you think.'

Meanwhile, the Backstreet Boys that consists of AJ, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell, are currently travelling the globe for their In A World Like This tour, also known as the 20th Anniversary tour, and is their first as a quintet in seven years.

The group, which formed in 1993, released their eighth studio album, In A World Like This, on July 30, and it soared to the top five in the US, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Taiwan, and Japan.
