[Nick Carter] Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys donates art for the Hungry

Nick Carter, the youngest member of The Backstreet Boys when the popular harmony group began in 1993, picked up a brush this autumn to help feed the hungry and homeless. The 33-year-old singer-musician hand-painted a ceramic bowl with a black shark at the studio of marine-life artist, Wyland on Pacific Coast Hwy.

Carter’s bowl became a donation to World Hunger Bowl, the annual arts benefit dinner held during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Nov 1-7 in Laguna Beach. As he has done for successive years, Wyland also donated artisan bowls for the silent auction. His 2013 conservation-conscious designs feature a turtle and a dolphin, respectively.

Scheduled for Wednesday Nov 6, World Hunger Bowl takes place at Mozambique Steakhouse from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Restaurant sponsors for savory soup tastings and accompaniments include Big Fish & Ice Cold Beer, K’ya, Sundried Tomato, Sapphire, and ReMarks. Delectable cupcakes from Aunt Mary’s Sweetery will be served as dessert.

Alice Wallace and Jamie Browning will perform live.

All patrons will take home one-of-kind bowls handcrafted by local school kids.

Along with Laguna’s homeless community, the Collaborative Courts Foundation (CCF) is this year’s benefit organization. The foundation’s homeless outreach program supports more than 900 clients, many of whom are forgotten combat veterans in critical need of medicine, health care and safe shelter.

Purchase tickets online at www.hungerbowl.org. Admission is $45 per person.
