"The Backstreet Boys and Paul Anka join the growing list of artists forced to cancel shows in Israel due to safety concerns. BSB and the veteran Canadian crooner both had multiple dates booked in July, but have been forced to call off the concerts as a result of recent outbreaks of hostility between Israel and Palestine.
According to an article posted on July 20 at Billboard.com, BSB scrubbed three sold out shows from July 29-31 in Ra'Anana, Israel at Raanana Amphiteatre while Anka cancelled two scheduled performances on July 24 and July 26 at Tel Aviv's Bronfman Auditorium. Both artists still hope to reschedule their shows once the violence subsides.
BSB were making their first visit to Israel and described the cancellation as a "major disappointment." The popular former boy band have assured disappointed fans that they will continue to work with promoters to reschedule the shows in 2015. For more details, see BackstreetBoys.com.

Israel has already hosted a number of high profile acts this summer, including The Rolling Stones and Justin Timberlake. But ongoing rocket attacks over the past two weeks have already caused cancellations of shows by Neil Young & Crazy Horse, veteran folk-rock band America, psychedelic rockers The Brian Jonestown Massacre and jazz musicians Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke.
Promoters remain hopeful the situation will be resolved soon and that these shows can be rescheduled. High profile shows on tap which could be at risk include: thrash metal band Megadeth on Aug. 6 at Tel Aviv's TLV Convention Center, Cee Lo Green on Aug. 19 at Jerusalem's Independence Park, Lana Del Rey on Aug. 20 at Tel Aviv's Nokia Arena and Lady Gaga on Sept. 13 at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park.
